The owner of this old apartment building let me cover the roof with flattened metal sheets from old oil drums to stop further rain and he let me rescue any rooms I could restore.
After much work we had one room for our three kids, a small workable kitchen, and a toilet. Was
living here with splintery wood floors and a drafty hallway depressing? Heck no, we had a roof, and
we had ourselves.
We were cozy and we were happy.
